Constitution of the
Black Canyon Homebrewers Association (BCHA)
Article I: Name & Objectives

The name of this club shall be the Black Canyon Homebrewers Association herein referred to as “the club”.
The purpose of the club shall be:
1. Provide education to its members and the public about home brewing
2. Promote social events, competitions, and the free exchange of brewing knowledge
from novice to experienced brewers
3. Promote the economic viability of locally crafted beers in the Uncompahgre
Valley
Some Objectives:
◊ Participate in an Octoberfest and May Day event for education and fundraising,
as well as participate in competitions
◊ Invite guest speakers
◊ Summer Picnic, Christmas Party
◊ Beer of the season competition for members with awards
◊ Road trips (pub crawls)
Future Goals:
◊ Obtain brewing equipment for members to use individually or collectively at a
central location
◊ Form a co-op for brewing supplies and ingredients for members
Article II: Qualifications for Membership

Membership in the club shall be open to anyone who is interested in beer or
homebrewing. Active members shall be in good standing in accordance with any
bylaws or policies. They shall have the right to vote, hold office, and have
full benefits and privileges of membership as are instituted by the club. Dues
will be determined annually and will be due by April 1st of the fiscal year.
Members spouses or significant others are encouraged to attend all social
events and welcome to participate, but will not have voting privileges. A
nominal fee may be charged for non-member attendees of competitions, brew
meetings and educational meetings. Any member can be removed without cause with
a quorum vote.
Article III: Officers, Elections, and Duties

Section 1: Officers
The officers of the club shall consist of the President (Primary Fermenter),
Vice President (Secondary Fermenter), Secretary/Treasurer (Beer Bitch).
Section 2: Elections
Officers shall be elected annually by the membership at the March meeting. Each
Officer will hold the office for one fiscal year beginning April 1st An officer
can be removed with or without cause by a majority vote of the members whenever
it is judged to be in the best interest of the club without prejudice to the
person removed. A newly elected officer shall serve the balance of the
un-expired term.
Section 3: Duties of Officers
PRIMARY FERMENTER: The President shall:
◊ Preside over club meetings
◊ Appoint interim presiding official in his/her absence
◊ Appoint committees and chairmen as necessary
◊ Edit and publish the newsletter
◊ Solicit agenda items for meetings
SECONDARY FERMENTER: The Vice President shall:
◊ Handle all club correspondence with outside interests
◊ Issue club membership cards
◊ Handle all club publications except newsletter
◊ Solicit guest speakers
◊ Assist with newsletter when necessary
◊ Point of contact for interested members/recruitment
◊ Competition organizer
BEER BITCH: The Secretary/Treasurer shall:
◊ Handle all club funds and maintain the club accounts
◊ Maintain all club records and calendar of events/meetings
◊ Maintains club membership listing (database)
◊ Prints membership cards
◊ Prepare an annual financial report for the membership
◊ Pay all club bills upon their approval by the board
◊ Send out reminders of club dues balances
CARBOY: The Website Manager shall:
◊ Maintains website and email list
◊ Edits and posts newsletter to website
Article IV: Meetings

Section 1: Monthly Meetings
The club will hold monthly meetings on the second Sunday of each month at the
association’s designated site. Special meetings may be called at the discretion of the
officers. Meetings shall be open to all members, their guests, and prospective
new members.
Section 2: Quorum
A majority vote of a 6 pack (members) other than the presiding officer shall be
necessary to conduct business.
Article V: Finances

Dues shall be assessed annually in an amount determined by vote of the
membership. Dues shall be pro-rated for incoming members. Partial payments will
not be accepted.
